Encounters with the wild life in Keyhaven River

Keyhaven River

Keyhaven lies a couple of miles west of Lymington, within the crook formed by Hurst spit. Fuga can only enter at near high tide, and there is only limited room to anchor. We deployed our kedge to keep us in the deeper water so that we remained afloat this time.

We enjoyed three days there, landing on just one occasion to buy the Sunday Times in Milford Village, about a mile's walk.

There was plenty of bird life, including oyster catchers, egrets, ducks, swans, and gulls of all kinds.

We were particularly surprised to get up one morning to find a seal lying on the fishing pontoon moored adjacent to our anchorage. A younger seal tried to jump up, but was warned off by the older resident. According to the fisherman, he is normally resident there, and is pretty comfortable with the occasional visitors!
