Beaulieu River

We arrived just after low water, and found bottom with Fuga for the first time.. the offset on the depth sounder was not quite right.

We anchored in the lower reach of the river, close to the entrance of what used to be the 'cut'. This short cut into the Solent to the west was blocked off in the late 70's (?) to maintain the depths at the main river entrance. It now forms a bowl of thick mud.. At this time the chain was unmarked, so it was difficult to tell how much cable had been let out.

During the afternoon of our second day, the wind veered to the north west, and before we knew it, we had swung gently into the mud and stuck there on a falling tide..

Extracting ourselves from this predicament was quite difficult, and we began to wonder as it approached high tide at midnight whether we were going to be there for a fortnight!

A more controlled sail up Southampton Water found us at Ocean Village Marina, where we had a date with the theatre, thanks to theatre tokens given to us some years previously! (We needed to use them up!)
